Moving Creatively

Moving Creatively explores innovative approaches to traditional forms of narrative within the field of design and questions the possibilities of communication through motion graphics. Information intake will increasingly continue to take form through time-based digital media as society progresses. Moving Creatively encourages viewers to embrace this shift and reminds people to look for more significant impacts beyond the screen.

Artist Statement

In recent years, digital media has become one of the primary sources for audiences to consume information. Whether that information is news, entertainment, social media content, or even a simple conversation with another individual, digital technology has become the most popular method of communication. This shift is visible specifically within the field of design. [1] Communicating information has advanced towards visualization; graphical elements are used more now to broadcast certain narratives. With this in mind, is it possible for 3D Motion Design to tell a story of creativity using non-verbal communication?

Motion can be understood as an expressive activity performed in all parts of life. These actions communicate various feelings, direct an audience, create an overwhelming sense of presence, and are even used as a tool of translation. As designers, bridging gaps between multiple audience groups is an essential part of our job. We are meant to conceptualize and communicate information, and also be creative problem solvers through our work. Problems, however, cannot always be solved through printed materials. The act of motion is universal, it is direct, and leaves little room for subjectivity. Moving Creatively explores innovative approaches to traditional forms of narrative within the field of design and questions the possibilities of communication through motion graphics. Information intake will increasingly continue to take form through time-based digital media. Moving Creatively encourages viewers to embrace this shift and reminds people to look for more significant impacts beyond the screen.

Throughout the construction of this project I was forced to complete various composites of wireframe animation samples before rendering out the final textured visuals seen here. This allowed me to view and test the movement and texturing of this work prior to final formatting, ensuring a seamless transition from the drafting process to an exhibition ready file.
